Community members helping artist create piece of work

Since it took over the Studio’s Midwest Artist Residency program eight years ago, the Galesburg Civic Art Center has imported talented artists from across the country to promote art fused with the Galesburg community.

Of the three artists who have come to Galesburg to spend the month of July working on their individual projects, Mariana Gasparini, a resident of Bologna, Italy, is one of the first international artists to attend the residency in several years.

“We have tried to add more of a community component to Studio’s Midwest in recent years,” Heather Norman, director of the Galesburg Civic Art Center, said Sunday at the second of four public workshops with Gasparini. Additional workshops will be held tonight and Tuesday at 6 p.m.
